8 Hidden Lessons That Help You Post on LinkedIn Without Fear of Judgment

A while back, I spoke with a senior leader at a global firm. She had reached out because she wanted help building her personal brand on LinkedIn. She is the kind of person who leads teams, advises clients, and presents to executives with total confidence.

Here are 8 lessons that have helped my clients turn things around - and they can help you too, even if you still feel a little shaky.
1. Everyone feels it - acknowledge it anyway
Before the first post. Before the first “like.” Before the first comment.
That nervousness you feel?
That’s not a sign you’re doing something wrong. It’s a sign you’re about to grow.
Most successful LinkedIn creators didn’t begin with confidence.
They began despite the discomfort.
Normalize it. Name it. And then keep going.
2. Your self-talk shapes your spotlight
Fear doesn’t come from the audience.
It comes from the script running in your own head.
“I’m not expert enough.”
“What if someone disagrees?”
“Who do I think I am?”
These thoughts don’t go away on their own. You have to interrupt them.
Instead, say this:
“I have something valuable to say.”
“I’m here to help, not to be perfect.”
“My voice belongs in this room.”
You’re not faking it. You’re remembering it.
3. Don’t try to impress. Try to help.
The moment you stop trying to prove something and start trying to offer something, everything changes.
Helpful > impressive.
Human > polished.
Genuine > viral.
You don’t have to change the world with every post.
Just help one person see it a little clearer.
4. Tiny actions beat big plans
You don’t have to write a viral think piece to start.
Try this:
Comment on a post you admire
Share a small lesson from your day
Post a quote that made you think - and say why
What matters is showing up consistently.
The confidence comes after the action, not before it.
5. Ask for feedback, not permission
You don’t need the approval of everyone on LinkedIn.
But a little encouragement from someone you trust? That can go a long way.
Share a draft with a mentor. Ask a colleague what they found helpful.
The right people won’t judge you. They’ll help you sharpen your voice.
6. Your flaws are features
Spoiler: no one on LinkedIn is perfect.
Not even the ones with blue check marks or 50,000 followers.
In fact, the people we admire most are often the ones willing to share their missteps, their lessons, their realness.
Perfection isn’t relatable. Vulnerability is.
7. You are not for everyone - and that’s good
Trying to please everyone is the fastest way to connect with no one.
Your voice won’t resonate with everyone. But it will resonate with someone - deeply.
Post for them. Not for the critics, or the imaginary board of advisors in your head.
8. Judgment isn’t about you
If someone judges you for showing up online with intention and care, that’s not a reflection of your worth. It’s a mirror of their own insecurity.
The people who inspire you? They’re not judging you.
They’re rooting for you.
Be the kind of person who roots for others, and let those people find you too.

You don’t have to be fearless to build your brand.
You just have to be brave - just long enough to press "post."
